Fanatical.com now supports two-factor authentication, to add extra security to your fanatical.com account.
Once you've enabled it, you'll be required to enter a code displayed on your mobile device to confirm your identity whenever you sign into your fanatical.com account - so only someone with access to the phone/tablet you've associated with your fanatical.com account will be able to sign in.
Note: You will need to keep your device with you to log into your fanatical.com account.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
If you don't already have one, you will need a TOTP compatible authentication app on your Smartphone or tablet - such as the free Google, Microsoft or LastPass Authenticator app:
- Get the Google Authenticator App for Android or Apple devices
- Get the Microsoft Authenticator App for Android or Apple devices
- Get the LastPass Authenticator App for Android or Apple devices
To activate 2-factor authentication for your fanatical.com account:
- Sign into your www.fanatical.com account
- Select "MY ACCOUNT, Account Settings" (or go to https://www.fanatical.com/en/account)
- In the "Login Details" section, find the "Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)" entry and click the "Enable" link:
- fanatical.com will display a QR code on the screen
- Open the Authenticator app on your phone and click the "+" option to add a new site then select the "scan a barcode" option to scan the QR code.
The camera will open and you should point the app at the QR code shown on your screen.
If you prefer, you can select the "enter code" option to use the code displayed below the QR code. - When the authenticator app recognises the code it will add a site named "Fanatical Store" to your list of known sites and show a code number next to it.
- Click the "Next" button on the fanatical.com webpage to continue the process to show the confirmation page:
- The code number changes very frequently, wait until it has just changed and then
- Type the displayed number into the box on the fanatical.com webpage
- Click the "CONFIRM AND ENABLE" button
Once you've enabled Two-Factor Authentication every time you sign back into your account at www.fanatical.com you will be required to enter the code number displayed at that time on your mobile device - so keep it with you.
Android Google Authenticator code rejected
If you are experiencing trouble with your Google Authenticator code and you are using an Android phone, it might be because the time on your Google Authenticator app is not synced correctly.
To make sure that you have the correct time:
- Tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the "Google Authenticator" app
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Time correction for codes"
- Tap "Sync now"
The app will confirm that the time has been synced, and you should now be able to use your verification codes to sign in. The sync will only affect the internal time of your Google Authenticator app on your Android phone, and will not change your device's Time and Date settings.
